Positive customer reviews – the PROs of this air bed:

  • I’ve had a couple of air beds before and none of them is as close as good as this SoundAsleep
  • holds air great, I add air only once every few weeks…
  • No sinking to the middle of the bed, the sides are just as firm as the center…
  • The pump is really as fast as they said, 3-4 minutes and it’s up…
  • I’m loving the comfy plush feeling of the top…
  • nice sides, I tuck in the sheets and they hold tight through the night…
  • both my wife and I are pretty big and this bed didn’t give in at all, we only add air once per week for 30 seconds…
  • I made this my primary bed…
  • why would anybody spend 10 times as much when this bed is just as comfortable as high end conventional mattresses…
  • no going back to memory foam for me…
  • I have serious lower back problems and I’ve been looking for a bed that’s just right. I found my salvation with this airbed. I adjust the firmness to the point where my shoulders and hip bone sink and my spine is aligned when side-sleeping…
  • I like how high and firm it is…just like a regular bed…
  • very easy to set up and to packs small for storage…
  • very friendly and efficient customer service…
  • Amazingly fast shipping, it was in my home the next day…
  • Almost no leaking, exceeded all my expectations…
  • very well made, that’s obvious right out of the box…
  • Holds it’s firmness for days without re-inflating…

The CONs as per the customers:

  • one of the seams popped…I returned it and waiting for a replacement…
  • spreads a plastic odor around the room…luckily, it faded in a few days…

My reviews digest:

It scored 96 out 100 in the Overall Quality rating when I was writing the full review for this bed. It was one point short of a Whammy (just a term I use for 100/100 score, which I don’t think I’ll ever give). I deducted some point for design and minor things that don’t really take anything away from the fact that this is the best rated product (if we don’t count the luxury area) on the website. It’s also one of the best rated beds on Amazon in any size and category.

One thing that I really don’t like – it runs out of stock almost every day.

I guess the company wasn’t prepared for the market demand, or frenzy which is a better word for what’s going on right now.

It can be in your living room tomorrowOne of the best offers I found on this bed was on Amazon.com.

Serta EZ Bed – Queen inflatable bed

Audrey Hepburn amongst beds, this one is a real eye candy, slick and stylish. But if you want all the compliments that go with it (and a bit of envy, and who doesn’t like that :)) be prepared to splurge a little since this high end inflatable comes with a price.

It’s fun just watching it inflate and deflate.

Let’s see why it’s one of the best rated inflatable beds on the market.

Serta EZ Bed QueenThe specifications:

  • features a patented “never flat “pump for fast inflation and deflation
  • self-deploying assembly and dis-assembly (I told you it’s fun to watch)
  • adjustable firmness settings
  • quality carry bag included
  • durable multilayer material to eliminate air leaks
  • Soft top finish

The PROs as per the users:

  • I’ve had it for 6 months and I only added air once or twice…
  • my guests would not stop talking about how comfy this air bed is…I am getting them one for Christmas…
  • Luxurious…it is a bit of a splurge but now that I have it I don’t regret a dime I spent…
  • sleeping on something that doesn’t touch the ground on my camping trips, is a completely different, calming experience…we also got an inverter that plugs into the car…
  • I’ve had it for a year and a half, and nothing to complain about…
  • Absolutely loving this air bed, so much better than ones that sit on the ground…
  • easy to use and move, really made my life easier…
  • exactly as advertised…OK, I just received it but it seems very well made, comfortable and durable…

CONs as per the users:

  • Pricey…
  • arrived late and was damaged on arrival…

My reviews resume:

I did a lot of research on this one and although I’ve seen some reports on air leaks (which would be unforgivable at this price range, if it was a true product issue).

Over the years of doing these reviews, I’ve developed a precise system to determine whether something is a real product defect. It takes time, but I count the positive and negative reviews and see if it meets the criteria I’ve set.

This one certainly does. If someone was to receive a Serta EZ that leaks, that’s an exception and a case of the product flawed out of the factory or getting damaged in the mail. I stand behind these words. You just return that piece and get a replacement, because the model is high end and we can’t have that.

Overall – pricey , but worth it.

Insta Raised Bed with Never Flat Pump

No need to ever think about adding air to this one. The pump is designed to stay on at all times and air when it “recognizes” that the bed has lost some air it just adds a little. You don’t even notice, you just feel the result – the bed stays at your desired firmness at all times.

This Insta is one of the air beds I own, and I love it. I will do my best to keep everything spotless and unbiased in this review and look it with a fresh sets of eyes of the other users.

Let’s get to it and see why this baby is one of the best rated air beds out there:

Insta Raised Inflatable Bed with Never Flat Pump twinThe specifications:

  • adjustable firmness
  • extra height adds comfort and makes it is easy to get in and out of bed
  • soft plush top
  • comes with a carry bag
  • As I promised, let’s look it with a fresh set of eyes.

The PROs of this inflatable as per the users:

  • I love the extra height, just like a regular bed…
  • One thing less to worry about, you just inflate it once and forget it…very smart…
  • firm edges, no sinking to the middle when 2 people sleep on it…
  • Very good product, great craftsmanship…
  • Both hubby and I are pretty big and we’ve been sleeping on this bed for 4 months now. I can highly recommend it, very comfortable, and we only add air once or twice a week…
  • the soft finish of the top holds the sheet in place, no slipping…
  • nice and firm, I experimented with it and found just the right firmness…

It can be in your home tomorrow.

The CONs as per the end users:

  • it smells of plastic for days upon arrival…

My review resumes:

I’ve had this bed for years, and it’s still my main camping bed. I just love the fact that I can just run the pump and forget about adding air.

As one of the other users said, one thing less to worry about.

Solid 87/100 stars from me.

Intex Deluxe Pillow Rest Raised Comfort Queen

A great budget solution and the best rated air bed in its price range. This inflatable costs a few times less than some on of the other models on this list. One of the best quality/price balances I’ve seen in an inflatable.

Intex Deluxe Pillow Rest Raised Comfort QueenThe fact sheet of this inflatable:

  • quality tested waterproof flocked top (21.2 gauge)
  • vinyl beams add stability to avoid sinking (15 beams in the sides and bottoms)
  • high power electric pump makes it easy to inflate and deflate
  • you can customize your firmness levels
  • capacity of 300 pounds
  • 90 day full warranty

The positive user reviews – the PROs:

  • so much space and comfort…exceeded my expectations for this price…
  • pleasantly surprised by how long it holds air…
  • like the raised sides, like sleeping in a comfy nest…
  • I had a 3 air beds before and they were much more pricey, but this thing is just as good if not better…
  • great reliable bed all round…
  • it might sound unbelievable, but I blew this bed up a year ago and haven’t added air since…ok, I don’t sleep on it every night, but still pretty amazing…
  • for this price, this bed is a steal…
  • 5 months of every night use…so far so good…
  • we entertain and have people for sleepovers a lot…with my old air bed I was kind of ashamed to put my guest to sleep, finally done with that feeling…
  • sleeps two people comfortably…
  • finally, something that my mother in law likes…
  • a must-have for everyone who has a lot of guest and relatives over…very cheap, too…

The negative user reviews – the CONS:

  • it has a distinct rubbery smell that stays with you for weeks…
  • it lost air the first night…sending it back…
  • developed a bulge and popped a seam within 2 months…
  • the carry case is not easy to handle…not the best design…

My review summary:

With this inflatable, Intex was going for a budget solution that would still be comfortable enough and not loose air like some of the products in its price range.

Most of the other beds priced at this point are garbage, forgive me for being blunt here. That’s why this bed has been holding it’s ground on the market for years.

There are much better beds for sure, but this is a solid budget-friendly choice:

I did my best to find the best deals on this bed – you can see them here.

AeroBed Comfort Anywhere 18″ inflatable with headboard

A headboard in an inflatable bed…why didn’t more people think of it.

It adds that little something that makes the difference between sleeping on an air bed and a regular mattress.

No matter how solid and well made an air bed is, if you have to put it in the middle of the room, you’ll probably end up chasing your pillows through the night. Especially if you are a restless sleeper.

This is what separates this bed from the others on this list.

AeroBed Comfort Anywhere 18 Air Mattress with HeadboardThe specifications of the inflatable:

  • sturdy headboard so your pillows will stay in place
  • quick built-in pump makes for a fast and easy inflation/deflation
  • innovative improvements in the materials used make it very durable
  • leak-proof
  • puncture resistant
  • luxurious top finish

The PROs as per the customers using it:

  • Such a relief that I don’t have to worry about runaway pillows any more…
  • sleeps just like a regular bed, I made it my primary bed…
  • Holds air great, I think I add air once a week in average and two grown-ups sleep on it every night…
  • better than our matrix bed…a life saver…
  • 100% happy with my new bed…
  • Inflates and deflates in a matter of minutes…
  • it didn’t budge at all for weeks, even with my small ones jumping and playing on it…
  • super comfortable…
  • I got this bed to use it as a temporary bed for moving and it’s now my main bed…I think that says it all…
  • This bed is really deluxe, very well made and easy to handle…
  • I get compliments left and right from my guests on our new bed…

The negative reviews – the CONs:

  • it arrived with a hole…waiting for a replacement…
  • it was great for a while and now it’s losing air…
  • color choices would be good…

My reviews resume:

This inflatable is priced right there at the “sweet spot” so you don’t have to spend a small fortune and you still get high quality.

Again, most people who get this bed get it because of the headboard and the luxurious looks. This probably also influenced the fact that its one of the best rated inflatable beds on the market.

Final thoughts

So, there you go, folks. These are my choices in the category of “top 5 best rated air bed in Queen Size.

I can tell you that it wasn’t an easy task. They are all very good, but it’s hard finding an angle to compare an air bed that high end and one that’s a budget solution.

What to take away from this guide:

  • think about what you’ll be using you air bed for
  • think about where you’ll be using it
  • think about what kind of camping you do (if at all)
  • if it’s meant for your home, look around and consider it’s future location
  • think if a headboard and the slipping of pillows is an issue

What I was trying to do here is help you gather all the info without digging through the pits of the web. If I helped a little, that’s good enough for me.

Take care and sleep tight,

James

I would like to ask a question. Have you ever rated Fox air beds. I was interested in their claims. thx.

    • Reply James Menta Apr 8,2015 12:10 pm

      Hi Karen,

the reason I have not by dealing that much with Fox airbeds is that I don’t have enough data. Some of the beds that I have reviewed here I purchased for testing but I just don’t have the money so i Just buy the best ones for that. Otherwise, the reviews rely on what other users had to say about the beds. To do this, I have to have a wider base of sources of customer reviews…like Amazon and i believe they are only present there with one bed.

I am keeping a close eye on things and will include them as soon as I get enough of a sample to make a fair judgement and rating.

      My best

I want an air mattress that is high and easy to get in and out of. I am older and it’s a chore to get out of them Can you suggest the highest and easy one to get out of. Thanks Becky Dathe

    • Reply James Menta Apr 8,2015 1:07 pm

      Hey Becky,

The models that you can see here are all pretty much the same height and the small differences there are not likely to make one so much better for getting in and out. For that, it’s the internal chamber construction that will make the most difference.

If I was you I would go with the SoundAsleep Dream Series that’s on top of the list…

      Thanks

Can you put any of these safely on a pull out sofa to use as an extra mattress? To increase comfort and height?

    • Reply James Menta Jan 12,2015 7:06 pm

      Hi Pat,

I guess you can but I don’t think that’s such a good idea. With all the movement and the metal parts of the pullout sofa, it will be just a matter of time before you puncture it.

I wish I could help better

Trying to determine the best choice between Queen sized Insta raised Bed, front gate ez bed inflatable with constant pump and Serta Raised Bed with never flat pump.
They have all the same features. I read the above comment about preferring Insta bed over Serta. How do you decide among these 3?

    • Reply James Menta Jan 12,2015 7:47 pm

I’d lean bit more towards the Insta. I’ve had it for years and never gave me any problems. You can see the full review in the comment just above this one…

      Good luck

Thanks for getting back to me James. I’ve been trying to decide between a sofa that has a pull out queen bed or to go the inflatable bed route. The bed won’t be used all that often, but comfort is important for my guests. Any thoughts?

    • Reply James Menta Jul 16,2014 11:09 am

Hey Amy, if you get it right with an air mattress there’s no comparing the two in terms of comfort. With the chamber technology used in air mattresses today most of them are as comfortable as conventional mattresses, let alone a pullout sofa. So, if comfort is a decision point, I would go with a nice mid-priced air mattress..

  6. Reply Amy G. Jul 16,2014 12:35 am

I’m interested in purchasing the Serta Never flat Air bed. How long does it take to inflate and deflate? Also, is it the exact same bed as the Instaraised Bed with Never flat bed? Thanks for your input.

    • Reply James Menta Jul 16,2014 1:55 am

Hi Amy, Serta Never Flat is a solid choice. About your question – if you ask Serta they would say 2-3 minutes but I would say more like 3-4 minutes. The good thing is that it stays inflated even without the small pump on (the one that gave it the Never Flat name). All these companies are in kind of a rat race with models and features, so it’s not the same bed, it’s similar features, similar quality, similar price point coming from two companies.

If you’re asking me, I would be a bit more inclined towards Insta if I had to choose…
